It all began on a Thursday night. Bored and searching craigslist with this idea that I should take up letterpress printing. I came across a listing for some random equipment. A couple email exchanges, a phone call, then a days worth of traveling and hauling...bam...I'm in business.
That's the short version.
The long version is this; The first time I printed something was back in the summer of 1998 at the Kansas City Art Institute. I went to a residency program where I was given access to their letterpress shop. Charged with creating a end of program show poster I instantly fell in love with this medium. I carried that time at KCAI with me over the years. Once I put a few nickels together I was able to score my first proof press (referenced in the short version above).
The name "Clunk" comes from the sound the press makes when it's operating. Probably should oil it more.
